Playa Zicatela is the best place to hang ten in Puerto Escondido. If you want to take surfing lessons, one of your best sources of information is the lifeguard at the beach. You can buy beachwear at Mexpipe (Calle del Morro s/n, across from Playa Zicatela. 954/582-2288). The staff is also happy to give lessons for $30 per hour. Canadian Paul Yacht sells and rents surfboards for $14 a day at P. J.'s (Calle del Morro s/n, at Bajada Las Brisas. 954/582-0759).
