You can hire taxis in Cancún to go as far as Playa del Carmen, Tulum, or Akumal, but the price is steep unless you have many passengers. Fares run about $65 or more to Playa alone; between Playa and Tulum or Akumal, expect to pay at least another $25 to $35. It's much cheaper from Playa to Cancún, with taxi fare running about $40; negotiate before you hop into the cab. From Puerto Morelos to Cancún, expect to pay from $21 to $25, depending on exactly where you want to get off. Getting a taxi along Carretera 307 can take a while. Ask your hotel to call one for you. You can walk to just about everything in Playa. If you need to travel along the highway or farther north than Calle 20, a reliable taxi service is Sitios Taxis.
