Beachcombers and snorkelers are fond of Paamul (pronounced paul-mool), a crescent-shaped lagoon with clear, placid waters sheltered by a coral reef. Shells, sand dollars, and even glass beads—some from the sunken, 18th-century pirate ship Mantanceros, which lies off nearby Akumal—wash onto the sandy parts of the beach. In June and July you can see one of Paamul's chief attractions: sea-turtle hatchlings.
