The Tres Ríos Eco Park, located just 11 km (7 mi) north of Playa, is a great place to get a sense of this region's ecology and natural wonders. Three rivers converge in the expansive 800-acre property (a lush rarity in the dry Yucatán landscape), and you can explore them by kayaking, canoeing, or snorkeling along them. You can also take horseback rides along the beach or bike rides along jungle paths, keeping an eye out for birds and animals; if you're lucky, you might spot a white-fronted parrot, or even a coatimundi.
