Geological Sites, Xel-Há
Fodor's Review:
This park was made semifamous when it was featured in a 2002 IMAX film, Journey into Amazing Caves, which was shown at theaters across North America. The park, which was founded by Florida native Buddy Quattlebaum in 1998, contains some of the Yucatán's most spectacular cenotes. You can explore these startlingly clear freshwater sinkholes, which are full of fantastic stalactites, stalagmites, and rock formations, on guided diving or snorkeling tours. A particularly gorgeous cenote, Dream Gate, is also on the property; its underwater topography is so dazzling it's otherworldly. To get to the cenotes, you ride in a jungle buggy through dense tropical forest from the main park entrance. Prices start at $25 for snorkeling tours ($30 for children) and go up to $100 for diving tours. Canopying on the 600 foot zip line will set you back $10. Be sure to bring your bug spray.
