Paseo Bahía, Chetumal's main thoroughfare, runs along the water for several miles. A walkway runs parallel to this road and is a popular gathering spot at night. If you follow the road it turns into the Carretera Chetumal-Calderitas, and after 16 km (11 mi) leads to the small ruins of Oxtankah. Archaeologists believe this city's prosperity peaked between AD 200 and 600.
