This refurbished older hotel on a busy street in the heart of downtown is a bargain, with many of the amenities of the more upscale hotels at less than half the price. Public areas sparkle with marble and glass. Guest rooms are spacious and clean, if a little generic. You can get a room with a view of the namesake Catedral, but keep in mind that its bells chime every 15 minutes late into the night. If your room doesn't have a view, the small terrace is a great place to watch the sun set over the Zócalo. El Retiro bar attracts a largely Mexican clientele to hear live Latin music.
