Fodor's Review

The Casa de los Azulejos (House of Tiles), covered on three sides by Talavera tiles, has been a Centro icon since the 1800s, and was taken over in 1917 by the Sanborn brothers to expand their drugstore business. Now the popular stores-cum-restaurants, owned by billionaire Carlos Slim, populate every major town in Mexico. The menu plays it safe with nonspicy Mexican dishes and international options like burgers, soups, and club sandwiches. Though the food isn't stellar, the building is stunning, and is a popular spot among Mexicans for coffee and a snack.

beats sitio

Sanborns Review

Just what Fodors says is very accurate. The waitresses are dressed up in a cafeteria Lawry's (Los Angeles Prime Rib place) style; service slow and spotty, food nothing to write home about. Not horrible. Just blah. The surroundings, on the other hand, are lovely. You'd be much better off walking a few metres east on the pedestrian street to Bolivar to the tiny cantina, el Huequito, for the best tacos al pastor anywhere in the city. Their especiale

pastor is to die for. And 1/4 the price of Sanborns.
