For most of the folks that visit Cabo, Magic of the Moon is their vision quest. Pepita could be designing couture fashion in Paris, but she's tucked away inside her charming boutique on Las Tiendas de Palmilla, the avenue of shops off the Palmilla Resort Hotel. When I want to look enticing, I slip into one of the voile Gypsy dresses she has made for me over the years. It's comfy and it just feels, sort of magic, on me. Or the charming bustier
she made for me 7 years ago - which has a power of its own and always seems to fit me like a satin glove. Her designs push the limit, but they are poised and confident. What's Pepita's Secret? She makes the clothing for each of her customers, and mine are like none other. On one of my visits, I walked into her store wearing a wrap that didn't quite work, and Pepita promptly re-made it into a treasure that I love to wear. Now I bundle up dormant wardrobe items before I leave for Cabos, and she transforms them for me. Pepita doesn't cater to pencil-thin fashion models. Her designs are made to flatter every body type, and that's another one of her secrets. I have seen women from Cape Town to the Cote d'Azur wearing her dresses, and when I ask, "did Pepita make that for you?," we became instant friends. It's like an international club, and the price for admission is a fraction of what I pay for a trinket on Rodeo Drive. In the course of becoming great friends, I found that Pepita was a native of Los Angeles, made a promising career as a marketing executive and motivational speaker, then started over in Cabos doing what she loved most – making women look and feel beautiful. By the way, I fired my therapist. Pepita made me feel a lot better, and she throws in that part for free.
