You can't possibly accuse this restaurant of modesty. But they do have a wonderful sense of humor, claiming on their menu to be "probably the best breakfast restaurant in the whole country." Mama's serves up bountiful breakfasts of omelets, poached eggs with avocado and ham, and cream-cheese-stuffed French toast topped with bananas and pecans. Again, they also claim to serve the "World's Best French Toast," this treasure stuffed with cream cheese, strawberries, mangoes, or bananas, along with pecans. The toast, topped off with an orange liqueur, just might be deserving of this claim. The fried potatoes are also superb. At night, the colorful restaurant becomes Felix, serving chiles en nogada (chilies in walnut sauce), pozole (pork soup with hominy, onion, garlic, dried chilies, and cilantro), and other Mexican specialties along with a lineup of more than 30 unusual salsas daily (the owner is a salsa pro). If you enjoy music, Chuy, their "human jukebox," entertains in the restaurant several hours every day. "We have no trade secrets, either," says the owner, Spencer Moore, and they share all their cooking and salsa "secrets" on their Web site.
