Traveling foodies, visiting chefs, and locals in the know favor this chic outdoor restaurant at the Casa Natalia, San José del Cabo's loveliest boutique hotel. Torches glow on the dining terrace, and the tables are spaced far enough apart so that you don't have to share your whispered sweet nothings with a neighbor. Chef-owner Loic Tenoux plays with his ingredients, calling the new approach at Mi Cocina "French Mexican Bistro-style," mixing marinated octopus with Chinese noodles in a to-die-for salad, and stuffing poblano chilies with lamb and Oaxacan cheese. Tenoux also serves classic onion soup, and the homemade fluffy focaccia bread is great for dipping. His fried Camembert goes well with many of the imported wines on the extensive list.

As good as the food is, it is really the atmosphere that sets this apart from the other places we ate in Los Cabos. It was tranquil, with a fountain, tall trees, nice lighting, and, overall, a quiet, peaceful setting with attentive service. The prices were not cheap but reasonable in comparison with a lot of other places.
