If you prefer to stay in downtown Ensenada, the Misión Santa Isabela is an affordable option. Gastón Flourie, a French archaeologist obsessed with (but unable to find) the lost mission of Saint Isabelle in Baja, did the next best thing: he built a hotel in mission style. Although dated and lacking in character, all of the rooms face a quiet interior courtyard and pool. They all have TVs, dark wood furnishings, floral bedding, and tiny bathrooms. Room #221 has a nice view of the marina where you can watch the cruise ships at night. For families, there are two apartments. Plan on dining out since there is no restaurant.
