Eco Tours de Baja (Zaragoza at 5 de Febrero. 624/143-0775) organizes a tour that includes a bumpy, exciting ride in a four-wheel-drive vehicle to a region rich with fossils, some millions of years old—you may even see a fossilized whale skeleton. Guides are knowledgeable and speak English. The area is protected by INAH, Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History, and several sites are being explored by scientists. During the ride you pass small ranches and vast fields of cardon cacti. Bird-watching is excellent early in the morning. Other tours include visits to the woodworking and leather factories in Miraflores and to waterfalls and lakes in the mountains. Trips, which cost about $85, include a barbecue lunch at a small ranch, as well as hotel pickup and drop-off.
