The Palmas is the East Cape's social center. Often featured on sportfishing shows, the hotel is near the famed Cortez Banks and has its own fleet. Its enormous pool has a swim-up bar, and a full spa pampers anglers and their companions. Swedish, therapeutic, sports, and aromatherapy massages go for $80 an hour and $115 for an hour and a half. Some guest rooms have fireplaces and/or kitchens, and there's also a 9-hole golf course and driving range. Special events, including an arts festival in March and several fishing tournaments, are big draws.

Hotel Palmas de Cortez is absolutely beautiful. The gardens and pool look out onto the blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. The room views are fantastic. The A/C runs only at high speed and you cannot adjust the temperature. The wait staff don't seem to know who to wait on and do not talk to you even if you try to speak to them in Spanish. Nor do they seem to care if you are enjoying your selves or not. Both my husband and I got La Tourista from the food so be careful. It is too bad as we both loved the rest of the hotel but we won't come back.
