Playa Lancheros Restaurant Review

If you want to savor one of the island's most authentic meals, take a short taxi ride to this casual eatery under a big palapa roof on the beach of the same name. It's right on the sand, so it's no surprise that the kitchen takes pride in serving the freshest fish. The house specialty is the Yucatecan tikin xic, fish marinated in a sour-orange sauce and cooked in a banana leaf over an open flame; this is cooked to order and can take up to 45 minutes. There are also delicious tacos, fresh guacamole, and spicy salsa. The food (served 10 am–7 pm) may take a while to arrive, so bring your swimsuit and take a dip while you wait. On Sunday there's music, dancing, and the occasional shark wrestler.

    Unpredictable

My first meal here was great but last year I got cold tikinchic and the last time it was good. You have to guard against overcharging here. And I vowed not to return because a young child was selling toilet paper at a stand outside the restrooms. Child labor is as low as it gets and it was on a school day. This place used to be really great but now its so-so.
