Fodor's Review

Dating from 1610, Guadalajara's oldest hotel is a national monument. While the run-down entrance to the hotel may scare you away, stone columns and colonial arches girdle a lovely three-story atrium lobby and dining area, with a marble fountain. However, the interior charm ends outside the guest rooms, where threadbare linens, tiny dingy bathrooms, and thin walls are serious drawbacks—music from the downstairs bar (there's a mariachi band in the lobby bar from 7 to 10

every Friday) will keep you up all night if you're in the wrong room. Rooms facing Calle Maestranza have tiny 17th-century balconies, as well as street noise.

Perfect

I just spent two weeks in this charming Hotel and found it to be a perfect location, rooms are exceptionally clean and service excellant. This Hotel is almost 400 years old and is very charming. The Happy Hour music is most pleasant but I did find the Saturday evening music too loud. It is a good value for the adventuresome person. No carpeted rooms or heated towel racks...just a plain good clean room and a fun place to be.

Simple and Nice

This hotel has a lot of charm. I recommend the rooms on the third floor where you will enjoy the large terrace for beautiful sunsets. It is also located in the center of town where you can reach many of the main sights by walking and/or bus. The staff is friendly and helpful.
