Fodor's See It Mexico, 3rd EditionView Details
If you’ve been vacationing in Mexico for many years, or even decades, you may remember a time when it wasn’t that hard to score a stylish cabana for less than $50 a night. Here’s the new reality: According to Hotels.com’s recently released Hotel Price Index, the average room rate in Cancún is pricier than in Florence. Riviera Maya is more expensive than Dubai, and Los Cabos is loftier than Venice. While Mexico isn’t quite the bargain it used to be, we've picked 14 affordable gems, most of which cost $150 or less and easily earn the chic label, while a few max out around $220 a night. (In higher season, expect to add $20–$50 to the rates. Sure, you can find lower room rates elsewhere, but not at places where we’d want to hang on the hammocks.
