A dramatic staircase leads up to the windswept lobby, and distinctive rooms are decorated in subtle blues and yellows. Some face the ocean and Avenida Rafael E. Melgar; others overlook the unattractive downtown streets or the terrace. Splurge on a waterfront room if you can as the balcony is a great place to hang out and enjoy the sea view and street scene. Rooms have bathtubs (hard to find on the island) and are immaculate and comfy. The rate includes a full breakfast buffet and the lobby bar overlooking the street is a great place for sunset drinks. Two sister properties, Hotel Bahía and Suites Colonial, offer equally comfortable but less-expensive suites with kitchenettes (the Bahía has some ocean views; the Colonial is near the square).
