Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort and Spa

Fodor's Review:

A $25 million makeover in 2006 turned Cozumel's loveliest resort into a thoroughly modern, sophisticated property. The expansive lawns and beaches are bordered by a marina to the north and undeveloped jungle to the south, making the hotel feel ultra-private and secluded. The beaches were wiped out in Hurricane Wilma but sand is gradually covering the limestone shelf beside a small cove and along the shores in front of the two hotel wings. Ground-level suites facing the sea have large terraces, outdoor rain showers, and indoor bathtubs, whereas those in the upper floors have whirlpool tubs with sea views (and separate showers in the large bathrooms). Sleek dark-wood furnishings and a calm cream and brown color scheme give rooms an airy, spacious feeling. Special touches include gourmet coffeemakers, i-Pod docks, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The main palapa-covered restaurant is best for leisurely breakfast and lunch by the sea. The Mandara Spa is the island's largest, with sublime treatments and a temascal (Mayan sweat lodge). Bellmen greet you like an old friend, waiters quickly learn your preferences, and housekeepers are are quick to provide whatever you need.
