Fodor's Review:

Purely Mexican in design and cuisine, this family-owned restaurant is a favorite for mole rojo (with cinnamon and chilies) and cochinita pibíl (marinated pork baked in banana leaves). Leave room for the chilled chocolate pie or the equally intriguing avocado pie. Locals fill the restaurant at lunchtime for the economical fixed-price comida corrida (meal of the day).

We went to La Choza for lunch just four days ago on Christmas Day. We decided to share a fajita (chicken) dish. It was delicious. But the surprise was the salsa! The salsa appeared to be a yellowish, shall I say, mustard-based type, but upon questioning the proprietor, found it has no ingredient related to mustard! It was THE BEST salsa I have ever had, with a pungent garlic/pepper flavor, and hot, but not overwhelming. Never will I feel the same toward the very ordinary red salsa. I shall try to replicate the La Choza type. If no luck, I'll just have to make a return visit to Cozumel soon.

I only had breakfast and lunch here, the food is fairly authentic, but not incredible, it is a little shabby, and the prices are not that low, except I found the breakfast to be reasonable.
