La Choza Review

Locals get together for breakfasts of migas (scrambled eggs with bits of bacon and tortilla) and the daily lunchtime comida corrida, a set-priced meal of the day with a choice of appetizers and entrées. The à la carte menu, however, is almost double in price. Favorite dishes include pollo con mole poblano (chicken in a smooth, earthy chile sauce), chile relleno de camarón (chile stuffed with shrimp), and pork with pumpkin seed sauce. An array of agua frescas in flavors like hibiscus are served in massive goblets, and remember to leave room for the chilled avocado pie.

    La Choza Review

An excellent lunch; Mary and I were treated to a perfectly fried red snapper which we broke up to put into shells with La Choza's special sauce, rice and veggies -- the best I've had anywhere. We sampled Guacamole, fish soup, and topped it off with the best flan and what I was looking forward to before our cruise started...avocado pie. The pie was beyond our imaginations; a cooked, then frozen pie with a thin cinnamon layer--delicious. Margaritas, desserts, fish--best on the island, I am told. It was quite a foray into regional cuisine, third generation ownership--very personable and helpful, with modern/clean kitchen.

    La Choza Review

We've eaten almost everywhere in Cozumel for the past 8 yrs but had never been to La Choza. All the locals recommend it as the BEST Mexican food. Doesn't look like much on the outside. Went there Apr 28 & OMG! Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere, decorations, music, friendly...it has everything & priced reasonably.can't wait to go back in June

Best Mexican Food I Can Remember

    Dec 29, 2007
We went to La Choza for lunch just four days ago on Christmas Day. We decided to share a fajita (chicken) dish. It was delicious. But the surprise was the salsa! The salsa appeared to be a yellowish, shall I say, mustard-based type, but upon questioning the proprietor, found it has no ingredient related to mustard! It was THE BEST salsa I have ever had, with a pungent garlic/pepper flavor, and hot, but not overwhelming. Never will I feel the same toward the very ordinary red salsa. I shall try to replicate the La Choza type. If no luck, I'll just have to make a return visit to Cozumel soon.

    It's not bad

I only had breakfast and lunch here, the food is fairly authentic, but not incredible, it is a little shabby, and the prices are not that low, except I found the breakfast to be reasonable.
