Rancho Encantado Review

On the shores of Laguna Bacalar, 30 minutes north of Chetumal, these Mayan-themed casitas are uniquely decorated with murals and hammocks, and comfortably sleep four people. You can swim and snorkel off the private dock leading into the lagoon or tour the ruins in southern Yucatán, Campeche, and Belize. Pick a room close to the water or your nights will be marred by the sound of trucks zooming by. Rooms 8 and 10 have the most privacy. The owners recently added modern suites at the back of the property. A large breakfast is included in the room rate.

    Mayan ruins, birds, swimming

December 17,2008. Just returned from a 6 nite stay at Rancho Encantado.(wife,I, 14 yr old grandson) Fodor's description accuate. If you go for the chance to see unspoiled/isolated Mayan ruins in the jungle and wonderful birds/wildlife, ask specifically for local guide Luis Tellez. His knowledge, humor, and general assistance made this a wonderful trip.
