This beachfront resort has been overshadowed by its newer neighbors, but the staff is friendly, and the location—amid 500 acres of lush jungle—is just as alluring as ever, and it was remodeled in 2012. Showcased in the extravagant lobby are a crystal chandelier and an infinity fountain made of marble. Junior suites have small sitting rooms, king-size beds, hot tubs, and ocean-facing terraces. Swim-up casitas with dome roofs have oceanfront terraces. Eight restaurants,
such as the Italian Casita, serve exceptional dishes. Despite the size of the resort, it strives to be an eco-friendly property with solar water-heating systems, energy-saving air conditioners, recycled water, and a 70,000 square-foot hydroponic greenhouse where most of their vegetables are grown. There's free shuttle service to Cancún and Playa del Carmen for organized shopping tours.
