Villa del Palmar Review

Blending Mayan and modern architecture, this five-star resort is like having your personal home transported to the beaches of Mexico. "Rooms" are more like apartments, with full kitchens, living rooms, dining areas, and spacious balconies draped with hammocks. The suites have washers and dryers, two full bathrooms, Murphy beds and private Jacuzzis. Since the hotel is "U" shaped, 90% of the rooms have ocean views; the center of the property has manicured gardens, three swimming pools (one adults-only), and flower-shaped hot tubs centered with fire pits. A hydro-massage bridge crosses over the pool area, and tunnels through massive towers that are illuminated at night. The hotel has more than enough activities to keep you busy including aqua-aerobics, kayaking, art classes and even Spanish and Salsa lessons. Although the beach is narrow, there are plenty of sun chairs lining the soft sand, and decent snorkeling can be found just offshore. This hotel is far removed from Cancun's shops and nightlife, but you can easily catch a ride on the complimentary shuttle that makes six trips daily. There is also an onsite mini mart if there is something you forgot to pack.
