Media in Cancún and Isla Mujeres

You can pick up many helpful publications at the airport, malls, tourist kiosks, and many hotels. Indeed, you can't avoid having them shoved into your hands. Most are stuffed with discount coupons offering some savings. The best of the bunch is Cancún Tips, a free pocket-size guide to hotels, restaurants, shopping, and recreation. Although it's mainly loaded with advertising and coupons, the booklet, published twice a year in English and Spanish, also has some useful information. The accompanying Cancún Tips Magazine has informative articles about local attractions. The Mapa Pocket Guide is handy for its Zona Hotelera map and some local contact information. Since the folks who own the parks of Xcaret, Xel-Há, El Embarcadero, and Garrafón publish this guide, they often leave out information on any competitors while heavily promoting their own interests. Map@migo has an excellent map of the Zona Hotelera as well as El Centro. It's a handy brochure filled with numbers and coupons to restaurants. Along the same lines in a smaller, booklet format, Passport Cancún also has helpful numbers and information along with more coupons.

On Isla Mujeres

Islander is a small monthly publication (free) with maps, phone numbers, a history of the island, and other useful information. It's published sporadically, but you should be able to pick up a copy at the tourist office.
