Playa Norte

Fodor's Review:

Playa Norte is easy to find: simply head north on any of the north-south streets in town until you hit this superb beach. The turquoise sea is as calm as a lake here, and you can wade out for 40 yards in waist-deep water. Enjoy a drink and a snack at one of the area's palapa bars; Buho's is especially popular with locals and tourists who gather to chat, eat fresh seafood, drink cold beer, and watch the sunset. Lounge chairs and hammocks at Sergios are free for customers but to relax in front of Maria del Maria in a lounge chair will cost you $3. Na Balam charges a whopping $10 for one chair and umbrella. Tarzan Water Sports (987/877-0679) rents out snorkeling gear, Jet Skis, floats, and sailboards. Seafriends offers snorkeling classes and kayaks.
