Heading down from Punta Cancún onto the long, southerly stretch of the island, Playa Chacmool is the first beach on the Caribbean's open waters. As in the case of Playa Caracol, development has greatly encroached Chacmool's shores. There are a lot of rocks here and little sand, but it's close to several shopping centers and the party zone, so there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The shallow clear water makes it tempting to walk far out into the ocean, but be careful—there's a strong current and undertow.
