La Habichuela
La Habichuela Review
Elegant yet cozy, the much-loved Green Bean has an indoor dining room, as well as an outdoor area full of Mayan sculptures and local trees and flowers. Don't miss the famous crema de habichuela (a rich, cream-based vegetable soup) or the cocobichuela (lobster and shrimp in a light curry sauce served inside a coconut). Seafood lovers will get their fix with Caribbean lobster tail or giant shrimp prepared ten different ways. The menu also features chicken, pasta, and shish kebab flambé. Finish off your meal with Xtabentun, a Mayan liqueur made with honey and anise.

On the recommendation of a fifteen year expatriot we found on the streets of Cancun we tried this place. Had to walk by nearly a dozen nearly empty places begging us for their business to luckily get seated here. What a delight. Finding places like this is why we do not cruise, care about "all inclusive", or go to chain restaurants. Try it, you will love it.

After reading the many rave reviews and talking to our hotel concierge we picked La Habicheula for our 20th anniversay dinner. First off we got stuck in traffic forever going into Cancun City to get to the restaurant from the Hotel Zone (it is not close). Then as soon as we sat down at our table in the courtyard (which was pretty) the rain caused a transformer to blow and throw sparks. The entire place went dark. We did order but our waiter Alfredo did his best to avoid us the entire meal. We ate bascially in the dark from the power outage. The food was very good - not great. The bean soup was great and the grilled lobster was great. But the fish and sides were so-so. After dinner we then sat forever waiting for our MIA waiter to ask us for dessert or bring the bill. We finally got up and went inside and the power came back on. It still took forever for the bill to come and the most help from our waiter came when my brother in law was figuring out the tip. We nicely complained on way out to the host but he really didnt care. All I can say is you should be able to do better than this place.

The garden here is a must for a romantic dinner in Cancun. Food is good overall. The seafood ceviche is the best you'll find, absolutely unreal. Don't miss it.

My wife and I had perfect lunch here today! We both had the Cocobichuela which was as advertised - a delicious feast. I also had the Lobster Bisque and finished off my lunch with a Xtabentun after dinner drink. Will return when possible and highly recommend to all!!
