Laguna Grill
Laguna Grill Review
Intricate tile work adorns this restaurant's floors and walls, and a natural stream divides the open-air dining room, which overlooks the lagoon. Delectable menu options such as a mojito shrimp entrée and fettuccine with lobster satay match the beautiful setting. The risotto, prepared with coconut milk and Thai curry, is sinfully creamy and mixed with vegetables, shrimp, chicken, and beef. Grill favorites range from lamb and duck to chicken and beef. Blending Mexican and Caribbean flavors, most dishes are prepared with cilantro or tropical fruits like pineapple and grapefruit. For dessert there's a Bailey's crème brûlée and coconut tempura ice cream with ginger and vanilla sauce.

The grilled shrimp was very good, but the crab mixture was bland and VERY overpriced. Cream of coconut soup had one shrimp and was so rich, I couldn't finish it. Didn't get the water front table we had reserved and the exchange rate was a rip-off (rate was 12.35 to the dollar and the restaurant only gave us 11). Good view - but all the restaurants along that strip have a good view.

Isn't Fodor's the best rater? The place is very nice but the food is not at Fodor's standard; how can you rate it like y6ur top choice?

Laguna Grill is an absolute must for those of you traveling to Cancun. Even if you are staying in an all-inclusive hotel, save a little money to go off property for one evening and enjoy the wonderful cuisine, the friendly staff and the beautiful atmosphere.

We went to Laguna Grill for our 17th Anniversary and found it to be everything described by the Fodors Guide and more. Staff was very attentive the view was amazing we arrived early and had drinks while watching the sunset at the bar. The entire Restaurant is open air so there really ois not a bad table to be had. We sat on the Terrace next to the Lagoon and were visited by not one but 3 Crocodiles that for me was a new experience, they just sat there in the water and after a while 2 left. The Food was fantastic We each had a appetizer Gyoza and I had the ceviche. I had the Ahi Seared Tuna for my main entree and it was perfect my Husband had the Ribeye grilled to his taste, We shared the Creme Brulee that had a hint of Baily's just perfect. I wish we could spend every special occasion like we did at Laguna Grill.

Based on a sign on the outside of the restaurant boasting that it had been Fodor's choice for the last 3 years, we made reservations on the deck at sunset for our "last night of vacation" special dinner. Boy were we disappointed. Service was average, in fact I think they were training their wait staff because the waiter couldn't remember who ordered what. I ordered scallops parmesan which turned out to be so gritty that I could only eat a couple of them. It came with an unidentifiable mass of salty green vegetable (I think it might have been seaweed). My son's "rare" rib eye was served well done, less than 1/2 inch thick and smothered in some type of gravy. My suggestion would be to pass on this restaurant and go to the El Conquistador at the Royal Mayan across the street. Excellant food and wait staff who are attentive and know what they're doing.

The food is a solid good, not excellent. But, the view is lovely and the decor is something! Watch out if you sit lagoon-side, our ankles were bug-bitten by the end of the evening.

Attempt to combine asian with south/latin american food fails. Even if food was well prepared and well served, the basic recipes were doomed. "Braised short ribs" not braised -- served essentially raw accompanied by cloyingly sweet sauce.
Service is unpolished, wait-staff over-commmitted and unable to provide attention, pour wine, take orders, put bread on the table, wait between courses -- or anything that could have made the two hours we spent there memorable in a good way.
No non-smoking in spite of accepting reservations EXPLICITLY requesting same.
Left let down, having wasted my evening.
Good view, though, if you get a table that can see it.
