Cancun Restaurant Reviews
Be aware that restaurants that line Avenidas Tulum and Yaxchilán are often noisy and crowded, and gas fumes make it hard to enjoy alfresco meals. Many of the finer restaurants and boutiques are on Avenida Bonampak, making it the continuation of Boulevard Kukulcán. The restaurants in the Parque de las Palapas, just off Avenida Tulum, serve expertly prepared Mexican food. Famous for its taco scene, El Centro's Avenida Yaxchilán caters mainly to large groups and budget travelers. Deeper into the city center, you can find fresh seafood and traditional fare at Mercado Veintiocho (Market 28). Dress is casual in Cancún, but many restaurants do not allow bare feet, short shorts, bathing suits, or no shirt. At upscale restaurants, pants, skirts, or dresses are required. Large breakfast and brunch buffets are among the most popular meals in the Zona Hotelera, with prices ranging from $10 to $25 per person. Most restaurants in Cancún open for lunch around 2 pm and generally stay open until midnight.
Most upscale resorts in Zona Hotelera purify their tap water, however, ask in advance whether it's safe to drink.
