There's a lot to see and do in Cancún-if you can force yourself away from the beach, that is. Understandably, many visitors stay here a week, or even longer, without ever leaving the silky sands and seductive comforts of their resorts. If you're game to do some exploring, though, it's a good idea to allow an extra two or three days, so you can day-trip to nearby eco-parks and archaeological sites.
High season for Cancún starts at the end of November and lasts until the first week in April. Between December 15 and January 5, however, hotel prices are at their highest, and may rise as much as 30% to 50% above regular rates. Although costs drop from August to October, travelers might return home waterlogged rather than tan. For those who are not limited to peak-season travel, lower prices and pleasant weather are available from October 1 to December 15. Keep in mind that winter's strong north winds tend to eat away at the beaches, uprooting surface sea kelp. Less sand and choppy waters may result in overcrowded swimming pools.
If you plan to visit during Christmas, Spring Break, or Easter, you should book at least three months in advance.
