Getting Here & Around

Getting Here & Around

You can fly into either Chihuahua or Los Mochis from many major U.S. and Mexican cities. The Chihuahua airport (CUU) is roughly a 10-minute drive from the city center. The Los Mochis-Topolobampo airport (LMM) is about 30 minutes outside Los Mochis on the road to Topolobampo.

Most people make their way through the canyons by train, on the Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico, which stops in all the major towns in the region. You can arrange horseback riding or day hikes into the canyon from larger towns, such as Creel.

Bus service is limited, but there are buses between Creel and Chihuahua at the eastern end of the route, and El Fuerte and Los Mochis at the western end. If you're short on time and/or need to fly into Chihuahua to start, you could take the bus to Creel and arrange day hikes from there for an abbreviated trip. (You could also choose to get on the train at Creel, as the best scenery is between Creel and El Fuerte.)

Driving from Chihuahua City to Creel and Divisadero is possible. Beyond Divisadero the roads get rough, especially the dirt road to Bahuichivo, the station for Cerocahui and Urique.
