Tijuana

Getting Here and Around

Most visitors to Baja Norte arrive in San Diego: there are few international flights into Tijuana, Baja Norte's only major airport. Aeropuerto Alberado Rodriguez (TIJ) is on Tijuana's eastern edge, near the Otay Mesa border crossing. Private taxis and colectivos (shared vans) serve the airport. Greyhound buses head to Tijuana from downtown San Diego several times daily. Buses to San Diego and Los Angeles depart from the Greyhound terminal in Tijuana 14 times a day. Mexicoach runs buses from the trolley depot in San Ysidro and the large parking lot on the U.S. side of the border to the Tijuana Tourist Terminal at Avenida Revolución between Calles 6 and 7. If you are renting a car or meeting a bus on the Mexican side of the border, park in San Diego and walk across; this will save you the major waits in the automobile lines. You can pick up street food and cheap souvenirs from the artisan stands just across the border.

By car from San Diego, U.S. 5 and I-805 end at the San Ysidro border crossing; Highway 905 leads from U.S. 5 and I-805 to the Tijuana border crossing at Otay Mesa. The San Diego Trolley travels from the Santa Fe Depot in San Diego, at Kettner Boulevard and Broadway, to within 100 feet of the border in Tijuana every 15 minutes from 6 am to midnight. The 45-minute trip costs $2.50; a day pass can be purchased for $5.
