Sports and the Outdoors

San Ignacio is the base for trips to San Ignacio Lagoon, 59 km (35 mi) from San Ignacio on the Pacific coast. The lagoon is one of the best places to watch the winter gray-whale migration, and local boat captains will usually take you close enough to pet the baby whales. Tours arranged through Baja Discovery include round-trip transport from San Diego to San Ignacio Lagoon, by van to Tijuana and by private plane to the company's comfortable camp at the lagoon. Accommodations are in private tents facing the water, and there are solar-heated showers. The cost of a five-day package—including transportation, tours, and meals—is $2,375.
