Malarrimo Motel Review

If you're looking for one-stop shopping, the staff at Malarrimo can wine and dine you, and arrange your whale-watching expedition. The most comfortable place to stay along Boulevard Zapata, the main drag in Guerrero Negro, this motel has 18 rooms and 6 "Mex" rooms sometimes called cabañas though they're not freestanding. The Mex rooms are a little larger, so they tend to stay cooler when the weather is warm, while the smaller rooms are better in winter. Rooms are spartan, although the hotel's miniature courtyard manages to enliven the ambience a bit. The hotel staff suggests making reservations around six months in advance if you are planning on visiting during whale-watching season. This is the largest, best-established hotel in the area, so rooms go quickly. The restaurant and bar, widely considered the best in town, are a great place to enjoy well-prepared seafood and delicious meats. The walls are covered in bric-a-brac including newspaper articles about the area, and found items like whale bones; buoys hang from the ceilings. The gift shop next door, Casa El Viejo Cactus, offers arts and crafts and a small selection of books.

    Malarrimo Motel Review

My buddy and I flew down to GN in his little plane primarily to go whale watching. Actually whale touching. We weren't too concerned about the motel. I had stayed at out of the way places in Mexico before so I was anticipating something shabby. I was a little surprised to find out how nice it was for a motel so far from "civilization". The rooms were like a Motel 6. But the bar, restaurant, staff, food, service was very, very good. We saw travelers from all over the world staying there. Obviously the whale were the hit of the trip but the motel was icing on the cake. The tours are booked at the motel so you don't have to go anywhere to get your needs met. No pool, but plenty of beer.
