When to Go

When to Go

Generally speaking, Baja California is sunny year-round. Keep in mind that, of course, the farther south you go, the more the temperature rises. Lower altitudes also tend to have higher temperatures. In central Baja, temperatures from May through mid-October reach beyond a comfortable level. These are the months to avoid. Most locals say that they start to improve around October 15. Along the coast of the Sea of Cortez, the mercury hits red from October through June, when things get uncomfortably hot. Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo in the south are famous for nearly perfect year-round weather, but rainfall is highest in September.

Remember these annual events as you plan your trip:

Gray whales and migratory birds tend to travel to Baja California from December through April.

Most surfers recommend traveling in central and southern Baja during the summer months.

The best scuba and snorkeling conditions are reported in September and October.
