Honduras sees fewer international flights than its Central American neighbors do, but the presence of four international airports here gives you a bigger selection of where to arrive and depart.
Tegucigalpa's small Aeropuerto Internacional Toncontín (TGU) receives relatively few flights for an airport serving a capital city of one million people. American flies from Miami, Continental flies from Houston, and Delta flies from Atlanta, all once daily. Taca flies from San Salvador and other Central American capitals.
San Pedro Sula's Aeropuerto Internacional Ramón Villeda Morales (SAP) is the country's largest airport. American flies from Miami, Continental flies from Houston and Newark, Delta flies from Atlanta, and Spirit Air flies from Fort Lauderdale, all daily. Taca flies from Miami and New York (JFK), as well as from San Salvador, and other Central American capitals.
La Ceiba's Aeropuerto Internacional Golosón (LCE) receives Taca flights from San Salvador. Roatan's Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Manuel Gálvez (RTB) is the country's second busiest airport. Delta flies from Atlanta and Continental flies from Houston. Taca flies from Miami, Houston, and San Salvador.
Connecting with Taca flights in San Salvador (SAL) opens up many more gateway options from North America to Honduras's four international airports. San Salvador is an efficient airport for changing flights—no immigration or customs for El Salvador if you're just connecting—and Taca has flights between SAL and Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York (JFK), Orlando, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington Dulles.
Honduras has several domestic airlines. Taca Regional connects Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, and the Bay Islands. Sosa flies between Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, the Bay Islands, and Puerto Lempira. CM Airlines connects Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Roatán, and Puerto Lempira. Central American Airways flies between Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, and Roatán. Because the domestic airlines have no ticketing or baggage-transfer arrangements with the international carriers, it is recommended not to make an international-to-domestic transfer (or vice-versa) in the same day.
