Roatán and the Bay Islands Travel Guide

Coxen Hole

Although it would be a stretch to call this cluster of clapboard houses attractive, the town's rich heritage lends it a unique atmosphere. More cruise ships are docking at the port here each day, which has led to a retail boom and mega shopping plazas aimed at ship passengers. Coxen Hole was named after John Coxen, a buccaneer who

lived on Roatán at the end of the 17th century. The town itself, however, wasn't settled until more than a century later. The largest town on the island, it serves as the gateway to Roatán. Here you'll find the airport and most bank branches, as well as ATMs.
