El Sombrero Campamento Ecológico Review
This cluster of wooden cabins is a restful place to spend the night. There are only three hours of electricity a day, but the lakefront views and ample opportunities for bird-watching more than make up for it. The friendly Italian owner Gabriella Moretti goes out of her way to arrange trips for her guests. There are rooms with shared bathrooms for very reasonable rates.
During the rainy season only a four-wheel-drive vehicle—or setting out on horseback, motorcycle, or on foot—will get you to Yaxhá; the rest of the year the road is passable.
