The Cloister Review
This aptly named hotel began life as a cloistered convent near the Santa Catalina arch that dates from about 1700. We imagine that its original inhabitants never experienced such luxury. Rooms are arranged around a beautiful garden that has a bubbling fountain and wrought-iron patio furniture for enjoying a lovely Antigua afternoon. Each room comes with fireplace, library, terra-cotta floors, oak furnishings, and exposed high-beam ceilings. You enter some rooms via Dutch-style half-doors. Two have a sleeping loft. Many comparable lodgings in the city charge much more, so you're looking at good value. Traveler's checks are accepted as payment.
