Cerro de la Cruz
Cerro de la Cruz Review
If the Santa Catalina arch is Antigua's iconic symbol, the view from this hillside perch north of the city, with its cross in the foreground, city rooftops and Volcán Agua in the background, is its best-known postcard vista. In person, the view is even better, but under no circumstances should you make the walk up the hill on your own. Tales of robbery along the way are legion. Antigua's Tourist Police offer a free, armed, guided escort for walkers up the hill every day at 10 am and 3 pm. Walks depart from the police offices near the market. Plan on a 45-minute walk one way, and bring a bottle of water.
