A considerably smaller waterfall than Nauyaca Waterfalls, Pozo Azul is in the jungle about 5 km (3 mi) south of town. Off the main highway, head up the road toward Bella Vista lodge and take the first road to the right, past the new school and through a stream; follow the road straight uphill for about 300 meters (1,000 feet) to where the road widens. You can park here and climb down the steps to the river on the right, where there is a lovely swimming hole and waterfall, often populated by local kids when school is out. There sometimes is a guard on duty in the parking lot (tip him about 350 colones per hour), but be sure not to leave anything of value in your parked car.
