This upscale yet very affordable hotel is upriver from the beach on exquisitely landscaped grounds filled with orchids, bougainvillea, and hibiscus. Standard rooms are in adobe-style cabinas with cane ceilings and ceiling fans, and have white-tile bathrooms. Superior rooms are larger and have a/c. The newer junior suites have king-size beds, cable TV, and air-conditioning—a must, since those cabinas bake in the sun. Four new family rooms have kitchens and two double bedrooms. Every room has a private porch screened with mosquito netting and furnished with bamboo chairs, and most have hammocks. Plants and elegant table settings fill the thatch-roof restaurant, notable for its excellent seafood at reasonable prices. A huge, luxurious pool has a swim-up bar and handsome teak pool furniture. There's a playground and minigolf for kids, and a spa and tennis court for grown-ups.
