Hidden away in a spectacular mountain valley, this luxury eco-lodge has the best of everything: a huge stone fireplace inside and an infinity pool outside with distant ocean views from wraparound decks. The lodge's three spacious suites have private terraces, huge bathrooms lined with river rocks, four-poster beds with luxe linens and towels, and terraces for total privacy. A deluxe family-size suite has its own fireplace. Just a short walk along a shaded stone path, there is a similarly luxurious but secluded wood cabin. Canadian owners Maureen and John Paterson, both retired mining engineers, have endless energy, planting and harvesting their own crops, including bananas and coffee, which they now export. Maureen is an excellent cook, turning out delectable dinners by firelight. Long hikes over the 280-acre property and along the eponymous river will help burn off some of the calories from Maureen's sumptuous desserts. If you are driving, you need four-wheel drive, but the owners arrange transportation for most of their guests.
