This is the prettiest and most luxurious of Tortuguero's lodges, but not the costliest. Each almond-wood cabina in the lush, well-manicured gardens contains four guest rooms with high ceilings, king-size beds, and bamboo furniture. The stunning pool is shaped like a giant sea turtle: the head is a whirlpool tub, the left paw is a wading pool, and the right paw is equipped for swimmers with disabilities. There is no cross-river transportation into town. Package deals include transport from San José, a jungle tour, and all meals; rates begin at about $188 per person. Pachira is known for being the most competitive marketer of the lodges here, and the place is often full.
