Fodor's Review:

Nosara Biological Reserve (Reserva Biológica Nosara) is a treasure. The 125-acre private reserve includes trails through a huge mangrove wetland and old-growth forest along the Nosara River. A concrete walkway passes over an eerily beautiful mangrove swamp, with fantastical roots and snap-crackling sound effects from respiring mollusks. More than 250 bird species have been spotted here, and there's an observation platform for observing wading birds. There are always crabs, lizards, snakes, and other creatures rustling in the grass and monkeys, iguanas, and boa constrictors hanging from the trees. Pick up a self-guided trail map from the Lagarta Lodge (near the trailhead); call ahead to the lodge if you want to hire a guide.
