The open-air, poolside restaurant of the exclusive Makanda by the Sea hotel has tables beneath purple cloth tents, which overlook the sea and surrounding trees. Its kitchen is cleverly hidden beneath and serves up such succulent treats as jumbo shrimp in a ginger sauce and grilled beef tenderloin with different sauces. The menu also includes poultry and pasta dishes, along with nightly specials that sometimes list tender New Zealand lamb.

We loved this restaurant during our stay at the hotel. Makanda was the perfect honeymoon escape for us and Sunspot was the icing on the cake!

We loved the food at the Sunspot, but the best part was being able to relax around the pool while the monkeys entertained us. We found the menu to have many great choices, and altho a bit pricey it was well worth it for the large portions and great service. Best we found in Manuel Antonio!

We stayed at Hotel Makanda for our honeymoon and were thrilled to find that their poolside restaurant was one of the best we found in Costa Rica. The service was so friendly and the food had a little something for everyone with huge portions. You could eat in the restaurant or right by the pool, which fit our style perfectly. Just be prepared that the prices are almost what we pay in New York, but we didn't care since the food was so good, and plentiful to boot!
