Getting to Fortuna Waterfall (Cataratas de la Fortuna), requires a strenuous walk down ¼ mi of precipitous steps, but is worth the effort. Allow 25 to 50 minutes to reach the falls. Swimming in the pool under the waterfall is usually safe. Wear sturdy shoes or water sandals with traction, and bring snacks and water. You can get to the trailhead from La Fortuna by walking or taking an inexpensive taxi ride. Arranging a tour with an agency in La Fortuna is the easiest option.
