There's great snorkeling and whale-watching at Parque Nacional Marino Ballena (Whale Marine National Park), which protects several beaches stretching for about 10 km (6 mi), a mangrove estuary, a recovering coral reef, and a vast swath of ocean with rocky isles and islets. Along with the tropical fish you'll see while snorkeling, there are also humpback whales. They can be seen with their young from December to April and again in late July through late October. Dolphins are also common sights. Above the water there are frigate birds and brown boobies, a tropical seabird, nesting on the park's rocky islands.
