Fodor's Review:

The 200-acre Sendero Tranquilo Reserve is managed by the Hotel Sapo Dorado and bordered by the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve and the Guacimal River. Narrow trails are designed to have as little impact on the forest as possible (only groups of two to six are allowed). A guide leads you through primary and secondary forest and a deforested area. Because of the emphasis on minimal environmental impact, animals here tend to be more timid than at some other reserves.

  • Cost: $22
