The view from this colonial-style hotel perched on a hillside above Santa Ana is impressive, but then, so is the hotel. The sloping stairway entrance lined with tall columns and greenery is reminiscent of a narrow street in southern Spain, an effect reinforced by the barrel-tile roof and ocher-stucco walls; the narrow hallways feel like an old castle. Guest rooms are spacious, with colonial-style furniture and bathrooms with hand-painted tiles. The restaurant, La Luz ($$), has a hardwood floor, a beamed ceiling, and plenty of windows for admiring the distant hills and the pool and gardens below. The eclectic and unusual menu includes shrimp flambé, marinated lamb chops, and Moroccan chicken.
